Meet: The Smart Bitches
Smart Bitch Modern Dog Training is
a force-free, rewards-based, female minority owned dog training company based in New Orleans, LA co-owned by Jiovany ‘Jio’ Alcaide, CPDT-KA, IAABC-ADT and Taylor Barconey, CPDT-KA, IAABC-ADT.
Smart Bitch’s mission is to popularize rewards-based methods in America and beyond, and prides itself on tackling all areas of dog training, including advanced behavioral issues, such as aggression, and proving to their community that no matter the problem, the Smart Bitches can help!
Smart Bitch strives to make their training and methodology as accessible as possible, particularly online, and love addressing popular dog training topics in a quick and digestible way!
Jiovany Alcaide
Jiovany ‘Jio’ Alcaide and Taylor Barconey began their dog training journey by becoming accredited dog trainers through a popular dog day care company in 2017. With an extreme appetite and ambition to become the best dog trainers they could be, Jio and Taylor quickly garnished over 300 hours of dog training experience within their first 6 months in their profession and went on to obtain their Certified Professional Dog Trainer title (cpdt-ka) through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers in 2018.
They are also considered Fear Free Certified Professional Animal Trainers and have recently become Accredited Dog Trainers through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), in 2021.
Taylor Barconey
The Smart Bitches currently own 7 pets between themselves: 4 dogs, 1 cat and 2 box turtles. Jio is the proud owner of 2-year-old Powerline, the Doberman Pincher, (respectfully named after the great celebrity Powerline feature in A Goofy Movie,) 5- year-old, Beetlejuice, a spunky Dachshund/ Jack Russell mix. Taylor is the proud owner of Patterdale Terriers: 8 year old, Suri and 6 years old, Sachi. They credit their dogs to being their biggest inspiration behind their career choice!
The Inspiration behind the name
'smart bitch'
Smart Bitch was born out of the necessity to be our most authentic selves in the industry that we’ve come to love and treasure. We are young, ambitious women with a strong moral compass and a passion to popularize and educate the public on how they can better serve their best friend in the whole world: their dog! But unfortunately, punitive, antiquated styles of dog training reign as the most popular form of training in America, especially in an extremely male dominated industry. And the positive pack hasn’t done a fantastic job grabbing the attention of the masses…. more often perceived as tree hugging, cookie pushers...
...So we did what any person would do…..we named our business Smart Bitch to punch people in the face with our outrageousness, and then we teach them that there is a better, happier, and scientifically proven way to teach their dog how to be the very best version of themselves. And the best part about Smart Bitch is we pride ourselves in being an all-inclusive, progressive company that welcomes anyone and everyone to become a fellow “Smart Bitch.”
We hope to continue to inspire other like-minded trainers and young aspiring trainers, of all backgrounds and walks of life to never be afraid to be their most authentic selves and to stand up for what they believe in, which for us is the undeniable power of kindness. - Taylor & Jio
